    300km/h Joburg speedster nabbed at funeral in Limpopo

    JOHANNESBURG - Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula on Sunday welcomed the arrest of the Joburg speedster who recorded himself driving at over 300 kilometres per hour on the highway. In a video that went viral, the 36-year-old driver was seen clocking just over 300km/h in an Audi TT on the N1 Southbound in Midrand while being filmed by a passenger encouraging him to go faster. Authorities had appealed to the public to assist in nabbing the culprit. Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Mbalula said the alleged speedster was tracked down at a funeral in Limpopo by undercover investigators.     WATCH: Elderly lady and toddler run over in Free State hit-and-run

    Disturbing footage of a hit-and-run in the Free State town of Ventersburg emerged on crime activist Yusuf Abramjee's Twitter page on Sunday.  In the clip, the car can be seen making an abrupt turn as an elderly lady with a child on her back walk towards the road. The car hits the lady, who falls forward onto the car's bonnet and appears to take the full impact, while the child is lurched forward.  After the incident, two people can be seen getting out of the car, while the driver rushes to pull the handbrake up. People on the road stare at the scene in disbelief, as the driver then assesses the damage to his car, without looking at the elderly woman and child writhing on the ground.  Passersby

    Security guard 'impostor' helps gang steal 12 Ford vehicles in single haul

    A person impersonating a security guard pulled out a gun and set in motion a brazen daylight robbery in which 12 Ford vehicles were stolen in one swoop early on Sunday. Police are hunting for at least 18 suspects along with nine missing Ford Ranger bakkies, two Ford Fiestas and a Ford Figo that were taken from a vehicle storage facility in Maggs Street, Waltloo, east of Pretoria. Police spokesperson Brig Mathapelo Peters said the robbery was executed between 6am and 7am. It started when a person, dressed in the same uniform worn by security guards on site, arrived and held the real guards at gunpoint. The main gate was then opened, allowing about 17 more suspects into the premises.

    LOOK: Police seize gold-plated AK47 during raid of notorious Phoenix drug kingpin

    Durban - A NOTORIOUS Phoenix drug kingpin and his wife were among three people arrested for drug dealing at the weekend. Police had conducted an operation which resulted in the arrest of three people, aged 27 to 36. Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said the police had focused on the kingpin. “During the operation the police officers seized two pistols, a shotgun, an automatic rifle, five weapon magazines, 10 cellphones, three digital video recorders and 287 rounds of ammunition. Police also seized 12 000 heroin capsules and R19 371 in cash from the suspects. The total value of the exhibits recovered is estimated at R430 000,” he said.     Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials said there were no survivors from the morning crash on a hillside in Calabasas, west of Los Angeles. The helicopter was described as a Sikorsky S-76, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said. TMZ was the first US outlet to report that Bryant was among the fatalities.
