"I saw my daughter when she was born, and I held her hand when she took her last breath," he wrote. He said when she was in hospital, he always hoped she would be discharged and return home. • Makhosi Khoza: Fear and loathing in the parliamentary precinct

There’s a silence in Cape Town around the parliamentary precinct these days, and the comrades are careful about who they are seen with. Makhosi Khoza is said to be the only ANC member of Parliament who still says yes to coffee dates with journalists. Everyone is watching the other for some sign of betrayal, with only more than a couple of weeks to go before MPs decide whether President Jacob Zuma is still fit to hold office. It’s a big deal, not only because Zuma’s public popularity is at an ebb (think Nkandla and #Guptaleaks), but also because ANC caucus members are increasingly gatvol of putting their reputations on the line to defend his. Some MPs have been outspoken, like Khoza, Pravin Gordhan

  • Watch driver bail as speeding train smashes car

But what makes this amateur footage so chilling is just how long the driver keeps trying to extricate his UAZ jeep from between the two sets of tracks as the train comes thundering down on him, before hopping out at (almost literally) the last second and scampering to safety. Even the onlookers seem totally relaxed - apart from some shouted words of encouragement to the driver - as hundreds of tons of unstoppable force hurtles towards what turns out to be a very movable object. Want to know how scary a Russian train is? The global standard railway gauge (the distance between the rails) is 1.435 metres; South Africa’s Transnet is the world’s most extensive miniature railway, with a gauge of 1.067

  • Brickz's lawyer withdraws

Sentencing procedures against convicted rapist and kwaito star Sipho Charles Ndlovu, better known as Brickz, have been postponed to August. His lawyer withdrew from the case and his new legal team asked for a postponement to study the documents. Magistrate John Baloyi was not happy with the delay and said the case had dragged on for long enough. Brickz was last week found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl at his home in 2013. Wearing jeans and a maroon jersey, Brickz was all smiles before court proceedings began. TshisaLIVE on Twitter Magistrate Baloyi states that this case has gone on for long enough and needs to end #Brickz
