  • New details revealed about the origin of Aids

HIV-1, which causes Aids, is composed of four groups, each coming from a separate cross-species transmission of a simian version of the virus from apes to humans. Previous research identified chimpanzees in southern Cameroon as the source of HIV-1 group M, which has infected more than 40 million people worldwide and triggered the AIDS pandemic, as well as the geographically limited group N, identified in only about 20 people. The new research, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, showed those groups originated in western lowland gorillas in southern Cameroon.

  • Don’t stop at banning foreign land ownership

If foreigners are allowed to own mines, competition for our minerals increases the price at which we can mine them. Why allow rapacious foreign investors who care more about profits than people to profiteer at our expense? Ridding our skies of alien planes would liberate our national carrier, South African Airways, from perpetual losses due to unpatriotic competition. Foreigners should not be allowed to buy our minerals.

  • Democrats scramble to defend Clinton - World News | IOL News

REUTERS Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton attends the EMILY's List 30th Anniversary Gala in Washington. Washington - Democrats scrambled on Tuesday to contain the fallout for Hillary Clinton, their favoured 2016 presidential candidate, after allegations she inappropriately used her personal email for work while secretary of state. The Clinton camp quickly sought to discredit a New York Times report published late on Monday that said her exclusive use of a personal email account from 2009 through 2013 and a lack of email preservation may have run afoul of the Federal Records Act. The report got wide play, largely because it fuels a political narrative from Republicans that Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, are obsessed with secrecy and seek to play by a different set of rules.
