The daughters of a SA couple who relocated to New Zealand - found dead in their new home by their father - were allegedly strangled. Lauren Dickason, a medical practitioner accused of murdering her twins aged two and their six-year-old sister, appeared in court on Saturday. Local media reported that Timaru district court judge Dominic Dravitzki remanded her to a secure forensic mental health unit until October 5.

Police have issued a reminder to motorists to remain vigilant, after yet another incident of motorists being attacked after their tyres were punctured by spikes placed in the road. According to a statement issued by the SAPS, a family was attacked by three men on the R80 highway in Akasia on Friday evening at approximately 21:00. The victims apparently stopped to change their car’s tyre after hitting what they suspect were spikes place on the road.

Johannesburg mayor Jolidee Matongo has apparently died in a car crash, following his involvement in the ANC election activities in Soweto on Saturday afternoon. Details are sparse, as Matongo’s spokesperson could not be reached for comment. The accident was, however, confirmed by a member of his inner circle, who said he was also still trying to get more information before commenting any further.

President Cyril Ramaphosa received a less than warm welcome to Naledi, Soweto, on Saturday morning, as he joined the ANC on the campaign trail on the last voter registration weekend before the upcoming local government elections. Ramaphosa was greeted by furious residents who accused the ANC of only remembering them when it is time to campaign for votes, and police had their hands full when residents tried to disrupt the president’s visit.
The report said: “It is recommended in the interest of aviation safety that the tower and approach control stations at FAGG [George airport] open at the same time. The rationale as to why the two stations opened at different times could not be determined with certainty but posed a serious safety implication on the operations at the aerodrome, which resulted in this serious incident.

The EFF has condemned an incident in Dambuza, KwaZulu-Natal, where what appears to be AMC members attempted to bar the leader of the Red Berets from inspecting a voting station. The party demanded that the Independent Electoral Commission take action against the ANC for their members’ behaviour. Scores of people clad in ANC regalia swarmed the centre’s gates just before 14:00 on Sunday afternoon, and tried to intimidate Julius Malema during his visit to the area outside Pietermaritzburg.
