Mampintsha is looking for kids to play him and Babes Wodumo

Just when you thought the ongoing saga involving Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo couldn’t get any stranger, the record boss has announced he’s looking for children to play himself and the singer. Yes, really. In a report on TimesLive, Mampintsha revealed that West Ink Records is looking for kids between the ages of 6 and 9 to play him and Babes in an upcoming music video shoot. You couldn’t make it up. The record boss told Instagram this week that his label didn’t want to use a casting agency to find actors for the video. Rather, he said, they wanted to give fans a chance to star in it. “If you feel your kid or cousin is perfect for one of these roles simply post a video of her/him singing Amaketanga and

Please spare a thought for the children

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a famous person in the age of social media? Or what it might be like to be close family of those whose lives total strangers take liberties with on social media platforms? I don’t really know how to approach this, but I find myself worrying a lot about family, especially children, at a time when the privacy curtain of people’s lives gets ripped apart by invisible attackers on social media platforms. My first thought is almost always the children. Then the elders. When an uncomfortable story breaks, I worry about all the old folks. We rural folk are answerable to entire clans, not just mom and dad. The confusion a report is likely to cause and all of the pain

SA Indians owe Malema and the EFF

In its 1948 election manifesto, the National Party argued that the Indians were “a foreign clement which cannot be assimilated in the South African set-up” and should be repatriated to India. It would appear that Malema and the EFF are trying to succeed where the NP had failed. Disclaimer and advisory - this columnist is neither a mob psychologist nor a Gucci Marxist-Lennist! This column may offend disciples of Idi Amin and other bigots. Believe it or not, third, fourth and fifth generation South Africans of Indian descent owe Julius Sello Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, a deep debt of gratitude and appreciation. Malema is right that there are racists in the Indian community.
